Challenge
In autumn 2025, works took place on the Mechelsesteenweg in Willebroek. This first phase of works caused temporary traffic disruption and reduced accessibility for surrounding businesses and healthcare providers. For local practices, such as a physiotherapy practice, it was essential that patients could continue to keep their appointments despite the works.
Approach
Ramudden Smart Mobility deployed targeted and proactive communication via social media and digital screens in public spaces to correctly inform road users and visitors about the works and the accessibility of their destination.
Clear and up-to-date information was disseminated through digital communication channels on:
-
the timing of the work
-
the impact on traffic
-
how destinations remained accessible
Combining online campaigns with physical information (such as QR codes) allowed visitors to quickly find the right information, exactly when they needed it.
Results
The campaign had a wide reach and provided effective interaction:
-
567,745 impressions
-
2,916 clicks
Local businesses remained easily accessible and the number of missed appointments remained minimal. The following experience proved as much:
Yolan De Borger - owner DB Physio (physiotherapy practice)
“The information shared through Smart Mobility was very effective. Patients always knew how to reach the practice, even during works. Without this proactive communication, the economic impact would have been much greater.”
Conclusion
This case study in Willebroek shows how targeted mobility communication plays a crucial role during roadworks. By informing visitors in a timely and clear manner, local activity is maintained and the impact of disruption is significantly reduced.
The approach is in line with Brussels Major Events' ambition to encourage visitors to make smart travel choices and keep the event accessible and reachable for all.
